The event offered a demonstration of the feature-rich smartphone highlighting key functionalities such as the ?connected entertainment experience?. Offering seamless connectivity between all devices whether smartphone, TV, laptop or tablet and PlayStation, it is ideal for consumers looking to share and enjoy content.

Speaking at the press conference R?diger Odenbach, Vice-President, Sony Mobile Communications, Middle East and Africa, said: ?Xperia S is the first device to be launched by Sony Mobile Communications, and we are confident that it will be very well received. We are delighted by the response since the initial announcement at CES and more recently at MWC that drew fantastic reviews not only for the smartphone but also for our new smart accessories including the Smart Watch, which was singled out during CES.?

Xperia S sports ?Iconic Identity?, an innovative transparent design element at the base, that creates a simple, strong, instantly recognizable look with illumination effects and integrated antenna components.

The user interface has been restyled to match the minimalistic design of the hardware. The home screen features a new colorful flow background making full usage of HD Bravia Reality Display and dual-core processing power.

Xperia S is set to deliver a stunning viewing experience with a high resolution screen, full Sony Bravia HD, powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor for faster performance and a 12MP camera with Exmor sensor that takes pictures in just 1.5 seconds from standby mode.

The smartphone is also near field communication (NFC) enabled allowing users to share content with each other and enjoy an increasing number of NFC applications and services as well as Xperia SmartTags.

Available globally from 12 March 2012 Xperia S will run on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread). The smartphone will be upgraded to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012.
