VANCOUVER?After seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at Vancouver?s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Friday evening, Max Coppes, the president of the B.C. Cancer Agency, was entirely smitten by the show.

?I actually loved it,? he said during intermission.

?I find that the synchronized movements of the dancers is incredible. I don?t think I have seen people be so in tune with each other. So I am very much enjoying it.?

Based in New York, Shen Yun tours internationally each year with an all-new lineup presenting classical Chinese dance and music.

According to the Shen Yun website, ?Classical Chinese dance is grounded in 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture, and is a dance art form built upon a deep foundation of traditional aesthetics. Classical Chinese dance is rich with expressive power.?

Mr. Coppes said he could see the different emotions being expressed clearly in the dance performances.

?They are very well expressed, either force, or elegance, or sweetness. I thought that was an eye-opener.?

He said the show also presents the different cultures that exist within China very well. According to its website, Shen Yun has a mission to revive 5,000 years of the divinely inspired culture of China.

?I think one of the things that we see tonight is the great variation in culture in China,? Mr. Coppes said.

He also praised the use of animated backdrops in the show, saying Shen Yun does a good job of integrating modern technology into its presentation of Chinese classical arts.

?It?s a reflection that this is not just ancient Chinese culture?the choreography is certainly in 2013, and it?s done very cleverly, and very much in tune,? he said.

?When you see it, it actually fits very well, very well done.?

Mr. Coppes? wife Arty also thoroughly enjoyed the show.

?The colours are amazing and the choreography is really incredible,? she said, adding that she enjoyed the music by the Shen Yun Orchestra as well.

With its blend of Western and Chinese instruments, the orchestra expresses both the grandeur of a Western orchestra and ?the distinct sensibilities of China?s 5,000-year-old civilization,? the website says.
